NILES — Mrs. Jeanne T. Winyard, 89, formerly of Barclay St., passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at 9:30 a.m. at Briarfield of the Ridge.
Mrs. Winyard was born May 26, 1922, in the family home on Bentley Avenue in Niles, attended the Niles School System and graduated in the Class of 1940. She remained active in all the past class activities.
An alumni of the College of Wooster, she had been employed by The Youngstown Vindicator as the society correspondent in the Niles office.
An active member of the Niles First United Methodist Church, she participated in and directed many organizations and events, such as Sunday school and the Lakeside Retreat. She was also a member of the Ida McKinley Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and was a Girl Scout leader for several years. She was a member of the former Niles and Eastwood YMCA, where she was an ardent 6 a.m. swimmer. She enjoyed traveling with her family and the daily reading of various novels.
Her husband, Thomas G. Winyard, whom she married Feb. 12, 1943, in Oklahoma, preceded her in death May 19, 1994.
Jeanne is survived by her loving and devoted family which includes her daughters, Cathy Joseph and husband Tom of Roaming Shores, Betsy Wallace and husband Jeff of Howland, and Debby McKee and husband David of Roaming Shores; a brother, Wade Trimbur and wife Kay of Ft. Myers, Fla.; her two grandchildren, Carrie Wallace and Chrissy (Daniel) Mercer; and her two great-granddaughters, Bethany and Alyson.
Friends may call on Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Robert P. McDermott Memorial Home, 614 Warren Ave.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 10 a.m. at the Niles First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David MacDonald officiating, where friends may call for one half hour prior to the funeral service.
Burial will be at Niles City Cemetery.
The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to the church, 608 N. Crandon Ave., Niles, OH 44446.
