- The December 7, 1898 edition of the Indiana Progress notes that William Stumbaugh and his wife, from Portage, were visiting his mother, Jane Ashcom in Huff, Pennsylvania.
It is also clear from both the 1870 Census and the 1880 Census that William was born about 1862.
Taken together, it will be assumed for purposes of this record that William Stombaugh, born about 1862 and living in Portage, Cambria Co., Pennsylvania is Martha Jane's son. This needs to be confirmed.
According to William's death certificate, William's name was "William Lewis Stombaugh". William died at the Old Fellows Home for the Aged and Infirm of Pennsylvania in Mercer Co., Pennsylvania. The superintendent there supplied the information for the death certificate so it may not be entirely correct. William's mother's maiden name is shown as Jane Owens.
