  • Notes
    • According to the 1930 census, John and his wife Francis were living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with their two children, Joan and John.

According to the 1940 census, at the time of the census, John was a guest at the Order of the Holy Cross Monastery in Ulster, New York. He is shown to be priest who was preaching at the monastery. In 1935, he was living in Columbia, Barnes Co., Missouri.

The following obituary was published in the Bedford (Pennsylvania) Gazette on July 14, 1944:

      Rev. J. L. Hady

Funeral services were held at the Gump Funeral Parlors on Monday afternoon, July 10, for Rev. J. L. Hady of Brooklyn, N.Y. He was an Episcopal minister in Shephardstown, W. Va., before going to New York. Rev. Hady was well known in Everett having resided there with his parents when his father conducted retail business there.

He was united in marriage with Miss Hetzel of Princeton, N. J., who survives together with his mother, who resides in a Presbyterian Home in Hollidaysburg. The body was shipped to Huntingdon by train and met there by Stanley Gump and brought to Everett. Interment was in the Everett Cemetery.

NOTE: The "Miss Hetzel" referred to in the obituary was actually Elizabeth Jane Link. She was the daughter of Dr. Charles William Link and Margaretha Hetzel. John and Elizabeth were second cousins. According to a well-researched genealogy published on www.genealogy.com (2013) by Bruce Edwin Warnock (bewarnock@aol.com), John and Elizabeth were married in 1942.

In the 1940 cenus, John is a guest at a monastery and is shown to be single with an "S", although a "D" appears to be written over. In any event, it appears that John was either single, widowed or divorced in 1940. In the 1930 census, John was married to "Francis". That John was married to Elizabeth is consistent with a two family trees on the internet, which have John married to Frances Klase or Klose. Frances will be shown in this database as John's first wife. And since she apparently died in 1992, this database will show that John and Francis were divorced.
