ELMER RUSSELL O'KEEFE, 92, of Fort Wayne, died on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Lutheran Life Villages. Born July 20, 1921, in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the son of the late Matthew O'Keefe and Freda (Green). He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific and was on the U.S.S. Sproston. He retired in 1983 from Lincoln Life/Internal Auditing for 38 years. He enjoyed traveling and golf. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church; Past President of Lutheran Social Services; Chartered Life Underwriter; Lay Minister to Seniors; Southside Optimist Club (joined in February of 1997). Surviving are his daughters, Marga L. (Russ England) O'Keefe of Columbia City and Amy C. O'Keefe of California; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Christel E. (Schneider); and sister, Marion Sloan. Funeral service is 2 p.m. Monday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, with calling from 1 to 2 p.m., with U.S. Navy Military service. Pastor Arthur Klousmeier and Pastor Thomas Eggold officiating. Visitation also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W. Wayne St. Preferred memorials to Emmanuel Lutheran Church or Children's Village.
