Timothy Ray Wertime, Music Educator at Wertime’s Keyboard Studio, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Music.
Mr. Wertime became a teacher of his studio in 1992, building on many years of musical excellence in his collegiate state of Ohio. He returned to his home state of Pennsylvania to establish himself as a music teacher, and believes his family heritage was a major factor in his choice of music as a profession. His grandfather, Rudulf Wertime, headed the music department at Wilson College, in his home town of Chambersburg, and was an organist and concert pianist. His aunt also taught music before becoming a college music professor, and she married another college music professor. Another aunt was a church organist and piano teacher, and there were many other members of the family in the profession. Mr. Wertime fondly recalls playing four-handed piano with his father, and he has learned swimming and life-saving techniques because of his mother, a water safety instructor.
Mr. Wertime attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, and earned a master’s degree in sacred music in 1985. He became director of youth choir with the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Springfield, and held several roles in Ohio, including organist and music teacher. After establishing Wertime’s Keyboard Studio in Greencastle, Pennsylvania, he joined St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church as choirmaster and organist. The roles offer Mr. Wertime a bright vision of his future retirement. Mr. Wertime treasures his master’s degree experiences while studying in England, and he was inspired by the colleges, directors, and cathedral choirs of the country. He is particularly proud of directing a civic boy choir which sang the national anthem for the Cincinnati Reds twice.
In addition to teaching, Mr. Wertime has been a composter, photographer, sportswriter, and author of such works as “English Liturgical Music of the Sixteenth Century.” He was ordained as a Presbyterian deacon in 1990, and further holds certifications as a water safety instructor and elementary music and elementary teacher in Ohio. Mr. Wertime earned the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Wittenberg University from 1975 to 1976, and was named a 30-Year Honorary Teacher of Phi Delta Kappa International. He remains a member of the Royal School of Church Music in England, as well as the American Guild of Organists, the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, Phi Delta Kappa International and the National Association for Music Education.
