- Bill served in the U.S. Army, 10th Armored Division with "joint assault signal corp. -- JASCOS. He was with the first wave at Omaha Beach, Normandy. After ten days leave he did duty in the Philippines Campaign and participated in may invasions there. He served with the Detroit Poice Dept. for 19 years. He then worked for Chrysler Corp. and is now retired. Bill is an avid American history buff.
The following obituary was published in The Detroit Free Press in May 2015:
GOFF WILLIAM Age 94, died May 23, 2015. Beloved husband of the late Rose Goff (Collins). Loving father to Terri Cornett (Don), Sandy O'Brien (Joe) and the late Vicki Izzo. Devoted to four granddaughters and one great-grandson. Born in Detroit, graduate of St. Charles School, Bill bravely fought with the 293rd during WWII and was among the first wave at the invasion of Normandy on D-Day. Post-war, Bill served on the Detroit Police Dept from 1949-1969, then worked plant security at Chrysler, Lynch Road. Family was everything to Bill, and he will be greatly missed! A private military service was held on May 27.
