Burial Rites At Graveside for Edgar
Retired Associate Dean at Pitt School of Engineering
Graveside services for Robert F. Edgar, retired associate dean of engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, will be held at 11 a.m. today at Allegheny County Memorial Park.
Mr. Edgar died Friday June 8, after a long illness. He lived at 153 North Drive, Fox Chapel Manor.
He was a member of the controversial athletic committee appointed at Pitt in May, 1948, which in its first meeting decided to cure the problem of Pitt losing football games by recommending that Athletic Director James Whitey Hagan be fired. Hagan resigned a few weeks later.
Born in Pittsburgh
Mr. Edgar who was born in Pittsburgh, was graduated from Pitt in 1919 and joined the faculty as instructor of civil engineering. He later became head of civil engineering and associate dean of the school. He retired in 1960.
During World War II, Mr. Edgar, on leave from Pitt, headed the engineering faculty at Shrivenham American University in England at which American soldiers were taught.
Survived by Wife
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Dunlap Edgar; two sons, Robert F. Jr., and William D. Edgar, both of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Mrs. Harold Sellers, of New Kensington; two sister, Mrs. Mabel Carrington, of Greencastle, Pa. and Mrs. David H. Evans, of Pittsburgh; and nine grandchildren.
Arrangments were made by H. Samson's, 537 N. Neville St., Oakland.
