- The following obituary was published in The Free Lance-Star (Fredericksburg, Virginia) on February 20, 1998:
C. Robert Swope
C. Robert Swope, 61, of Orange County died Thursday, February 19, at his residence.
Born in Berlin, Pa., Mr. Swope had retired from Virginia Power after 20 years. He was a member of Orange Moose Lodge No. 2198, where he held its Pilgrim Degree.
Cubmaster and Webelos leader for Cub Scout Pack No. 14, he was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Berlin.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Phyllis Knighton Swope; a daughter, Roberta L. Swope of Charlottesville; three sons, Michael W. Swope and Robert O. Swope, both of Orange, and James W. Hawthorne of Unionville; two brothers, John O. Swope of Silver Spring, Md., and Harry E. Swope of Wheaton, Md.; a sister, Barbara A. Miller of Berlin, Pa.; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Preddy Funeral Home, Orange, wth the Rev. Forest Porter officiating. Burial will be in Graham Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following a 7 p.m. Moose service tonight at the funeral home.
