Geraldine's Story
CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS — Geraldine “Gerrie” Mae Green, 87, passed away peacefully at her home, 26073 Route 6 & 19, Cambridge Springs, on Saturday, May 30, 2015. Born in Canton, Ohio, Jan. 22, 1928, Gerrie was a daughter of the late Edgar Campbell and Florence Zook Campbell. She married Donald H. Green on April 10, 1948, in Cambridge Springs Presbyterian Church by the Rev. James Register. Gerrie, together with her husband, Donald, owned and operated their farm located on Route 19 north of Cambridge Springs. For many years, she sold produce at the Meadville Market House grown on the farm and then in her retirement years she worked there as a waitress. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Drakes Mills where she had served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher. She enjoyed playing bingo, visiting the casinos, crafting and working in her flower beds, but her greatest pleasure was bowling which she did until the age of 85. Surviving Gerrie, in addition to her husband, Donald, are four daughters, Norene Rhodes of Granger, Ind., Deborah Kerr and her husband, Dennis, of Cambridge Springs, Connie Leslie and her husband, Ron, of Mooresville, N.C. and Natalie Hanks and her husband, Harry, of Cambridge Springs; a son, Donald H. Green Jr. of Cambridge Springs; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Gerrie was preceded in death by two brothers, Edgar Campbell Jr. and Paul Campbell; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Shaffer; a great-granddaughter, Bridon Nicole Green; and a son-in-law, Randy Rhodes. Friends may call at Van Matre Family Funeral Home, 335 Venango Ave., Cambridge Springs, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend the funeral there Tuesday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Brian Riddle, pastor of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Drakes Mills will officiate. Interment will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25812 Mt. Pleasant Road, or Mitchell Cemetery, 26509 Old Route 86, both of Cambridge Springs, Pa. 16403.
