- According to Jordan, John W., "A Century and a Half of Pittsburg and Her People, v. III, Lewis Publishing Company (1908), August Edward (or Edward August) was educated in German and in English. For many years in was engaged in the insurance business in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
The following obituary was published in the July 2, 1896 edition of the Pittsburgh Daily Post:
Edward A. Rohrkaste
Edward A. Rohrkaste died yesterday at his home, 2215 Sarah street, Southside, aged 39 years. M. Rohrkaste was a well-known and popular Fourth avenue insurance man. His father, Ernest Rohrkaste, was an early settler on the Southside, and he was born and raised there. Six brothers are prominent business men and merchants. The wife and three small children survive.
