- According to Dr. Frank Johnson, Ray was Mary's brother, although the 1880 census does not show a Ray in the family. It is likely that either Ray was not Mary's brother or I have the wrong Ashcom family in the 1880 census. Ray was an engineer on the Pennsylvania Railroad.
