  • Notes
    • Mary was apparently named after her sister (Mary) and her mother (Elizabeth).

When the wife (Jennie McNulty) of Mary's brother, Charles P. Morris, died about 1893, Mary adopted Charles' daughter, Virginia R. Morris. The 1900 census shows Virginia living with George & Mary Bixby in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

The following obituary was transcribed from the Muskogee Phoenix (no date indicated) by Richard Goms and published on FindAGrave.com (2011):

      MRS. GEORGE BIXBY DEAD

Funeral Services for Former Muskogee Woman Held Here Today

Funeral services for Mrs. George Bixby who died in Oklahoma City yesterday will be held at the Central Baptist church here at 4 o'clock this afternoon. The Reverend B. A. Pugh will officiate.

Mrs. Bixby had been seriously ill for some time but her death was unexpected. She is survived by her husband, George, and six children; Mrs. W. P. [Addie] Brown of Minneapolis, Mrs. C. E. [Ostera] Flanigan of Mexia, Texas, Mrs. Sherman [Esther] Cross of Mexia, Texas, Mrs. Henry [Georgia Pat] De Coux of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Read [Helen] Bilbruck of Jackson, Illinois, and [Charles] Floyd Hines of Wagoner, Oklahoma. Mrs. Bixby for many years was a resident of Muskogee.
