According to the 1850 Census, in 1850, Laurence (sic) and Mary Pelton (b. 1825, PA) were living in Derry Twp., Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania. Lorenzo was a shoemaker. Living with them is Thomas Aschom (sic) (b. 1832 in Pennsylvania), and Hugh Aschom (sic) (b. 1835 in Pennsylvania). These may be Mary's younger brothers. They are also shoemakers. Living nearby is James (b. 1790 in Maryland) and Elizabeth (b. 1796 in Pennsylvania) Askum, apparently Mary's parents.

The dates of birth for Lorenzo's children were obtained primarily from Genealogy of the Pelton family in America : being a record of the descendants of John Pelton who settled in Boston, Mass., about 1630-1632, and died in Dorchester, Mass., January 23rd, 1681
