    • Arthur enlisted in 1936 to help provide for his mother and brothers and sisters after his father left the family. He reenlisted when WW II broke out and served in the Pacific. When he got home after the War, he was a mailman for the U.S. Postal Service on the Northside of Pittsburgh for 30 years. He cared for his mother until 1956. He met his wife Nancy on his delivery route. Nancy was a widow with two daughters. Nancy characterizes him as a very understanding person. He retired at age 62. He lived for 3 years at the V. A. hospital in Pittsburgh before he died in 1987 of Alzheimer's Disease.

      The following obituary appeared in the February 6, 1987 edition of the North Hills (Pittsburgh) News Record on February 6, 1987:

      Arthur J. Dauenhauer

      Avalon--Services were held yesterday for Arthur Jerome Dauenhauer, 75, who died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1987, at the Veterans Administration Hospital of Pittsburgh on Highland Drive.

      He was a retired mail carrier.

      Mr. Dauenhauer was the husband of Nancy B. Dauenhauer, step-father of Kathleen S. McKula of Connecticut and Audrey Ensminger of Avalon, brother of Mildred Windle of West View and grandfather of Ann and Robby Ensminger.

      Burial was in Allegheny County Memorial Park in McCandless.
