    • The following obituary appeared in the Evening Times (Cumberland, Maryland) on May 30, 1909:

      Death of Col. J. T. Lowery

      Co. John F. Lowery, father of Mrs. John S. Hady, Chase street, died on yesterday afternoon, aged 85 years. Col. Lowery was a native of Hollidaysburg, Pa., and for many years was a prominent business man of Bedford county, Pa. He was a colonel of the Bedford county militia during the civil war. His wife died some 35 years ago and for many years past Col. Lowery has made his home in the family of his daughter, Mrs. Hady, who was his only child. He suffered much from a chronic ailment and recently spend several months at the Western Maryland hospital.

      Mr. John J. Hetzel, of Martinsburg, W. Va., was a brother-in-law of Col. Lowery.

      The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Edward Hayes, of the Centre Street, M.E. Church, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hady this evening at 8 o'clock. The body will be taken to Everett, Pa., for burial.
