Jean Helen Young, 82, of Mendota passed away peacefully Oct. 3, 2012, in Unity Hospital in Fridley, Minn., after a long, brave battle with cancer.

A private graveside service will be on the morning of Oct. 20. It will be followed by a public “Time of Remem-brance” for Jean from 2:30-4 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church, Mendota. The family requests that friends and relatives bring photos and memories to share. A funeral service to celebrate Jean’s life will follow at 4 p.m., followed by a meal at the church.

Jean married Theron “Cy” L. Young in 1966. Together, they shared in the joys and embraced the challenges of raising seven children. Jean and Cy shared many happy years and an array of hobbies and interests, including travel, spending time with family and friends, and active involvement in their church. Above all, Jean cherished her family and they cherished her.

She is survived by her children Beverly (Glenn) Dobias, Marilyn (Shaun) Murphy, Barbara (Merv) Stalter, Colleen (Jim) Moravek, Martin (Eleanor) Smith, Henson (Pati) Smith, and Lois (Rick) Ledesma; 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Orr and Ann Smith; and her sisters-in-law, Patty Alexander, Shirley Widmer and Nancy Widmer.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Doris Pfeiffer; and three brothers Robert “Red”, Richard, and William “Junior” Widmer.
