- The following obituary appeared in the August 30, 1958 edition of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
Johnson--On Friday, Aug. 29, 1958, at the house of her granddaughter, Verna Skidmore Kuhlber, 120 Fistk Ave., Avalon, Ella Byers, wife of the late Harry R. Johnson; mother of Harry R. Johnson and Mrs. Charotte Skidmore; sister of John S. and Samuel W. Byers; also four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Friends received at McDonalds Funeral Home, 529 California Ave., Avalon, where services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2.

Mrs. Ella J. B. Johnson
Services for Mrs. Ella J. Byers Johnson, 85, of Avalon, will be at 2 p. m. Tuesday in the McDonald Funeral Home, 529 California Ave., Avalon.
Mrs. Johnson, who lived her granddaughter, Mrs. Verna Kuhlber, of 120 Fisk Ave., died Friday night.
Born in Old Allegheny, Mrs. Johnson lived in Avalon for many years. She was the widow of Harry R. Johnson, who died in 1920.
She was a member of the Avalon United Presbyterian Church and the N. Lewella Jackson Chapter 416 of the Order of Eastern Star.
She leaves a son Harry R. of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Skidmore, of Christline [sic], Ohio; two brothers, John S., of North Side, and Samuel W of Bellevue; and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends are being received at the funeral home. Burial will be in Uniondale Cemetery.
