  • Notes
    • Dr. Michael Beuther, Jr., Th. D. (11/18/1522-10/27/1587) studied at various universities in Europe and was a guest for five years (1539-1544) in the home of Dr. Martin Luther. At the University of Wittenberg he studied under both Luther and Melanchthon. Later, upon graduation, he served as professor of history, literature and mathamatics at the University of Greifswald (1544-1548), a position secured for him by Melanchthon. He participated in the 1555 Diet of Augsburg. He later studied medicine in Padua, and yet later (1554) earned the Dr. of Jurisprudence degree in Ferrara, at which time noble status was personally conferred upon him. (At this time in history this status did not pass on to the next generation, but was individually earned.) He concluded his career as professor of history and law at the Academy in Strassburg, France (1565-1587), where he died in 1587. He authored several scholarly volumes, writing in the Latin language.
