      Effie H. Marteney 
      HARRISVILLE - Effie H. Mathers Marteney, 80, of Harrisville died April 24, 2002, at Pine View Continuous Care, Harrisville. 

      She was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Ritchie County, a daughter of the late Bert and Iva Wamsley Mathers. She had been a waitress in Washington, D.C., and Weston, W.Va. 

      She is survived by one sister, Bessie Mathers of Smithville; one daughter-in-law, Lauree Ashcom of Alabama; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and caregivers Nick and Pat Volonakis of LaPlata, Md. 

      She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Marteney; one son, Charles Burt Ashcom; five brothers; and two sisters. 

      Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2002, at Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville, with Rev. Kenneth Whipkey officiating. Burial will follow in the Hardman Chapel Cemetery, Smithville. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
