Obituary - Martha Clinger Boren
BOREN FUNERAL SET AT PROVO
Provo, Feb. 5, Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Clinger Boren, 93, oldest woman in Provo, who died at her home Saturday night, will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Provo Sixth Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the residence, 128 South Third West Street, prior to the services.
Internment will be in the Provo Burial Park under the direction of the Berg Mortuary.
"Grandma" Boren had been a noted figure at the annual Old Folks entertainments, at which she has been the oldest woman present for many years past.
Mrs. Boren was born Nov. 18, 1846, in Van Buren County, Ia., a daughter of James and Harriet Chapin Clinger. She came to Utah with her parents in 1852, settling in Provo. She received her education in Provo schools and was married to Joseph S. Boren Feb. 8, 1867, in the old Salt Lake Endowment House. He died in 1912.
She was a charter member of the first Relief Society organized in Provo. She devoted much of her time in the service of the sick. She was a charter member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, camp No. 8.
Surviving are four sons, Charles A. Boren of Provo, Reed B. Boren of Oakley, Ida.; Leo B. Boren of Arlington, Calif., and Ray Boren of Riverside, Calif.; 38 grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Lucy Davis of Provo, Mrs. Elnora Parker of Mancos, Colo., and John R. Clinger of Mt. Pleasant.
