Wagners celebrate 60 years together
Mr. and Mrs. Leighton A. Wagner of Johnstown have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at their home. Mr. Wagner and the former Mary Louise Stombaugh were married Nov. 1, 1941, at Cooper Avenue United Methodist Church, Coopersdale, by the Rev. Camby L. Moore. Mr. Wagner was born Aug. 15, 1918, in Johnstown, son of the late Charles C. and Caroline (Gehring) Wagner. Mrs. Wagner was born March 25, 1917, daughter of the late J. Frederick and Sara (Ashcom) Stombaugh. Mr. Wagner retired in 1994 after 59 years' service from the city of Johnstown, with 53 years in parking meter maintenance. He also retired after 56 years' service with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as a cooperative weather observer. Mrs. Wagner is a genealogy enthusiast. The Wagners are in the Voters Hall of Fame in Harrisburg for 50 or more years of consecutive voting. They are lifelong, active members of Cooper Avenue United Methodist Church and the Sunday school. They also like to travel and have been to all of the 48 contiguous states. They are the parents of three children: Frederick R., married to the former Patricia Tay, Johnstown; Linda L. Wagner, Johnstown, and Timothy J., married to the former Elizabeth Brown, Johnstown. There is a granddaughter.

Mary Louise Wagner
Wagner, Mary Louise (Stombaugh), 94, Coopersdale, died March 19, 2012 in Johnstown. Born March 25, 1917 in Johnstown, daughter of the late John Frederick "Fred" and Sara Gertrude (Ashcom) Stombaugh.
Preceded in death by husband, Leighton A. Wagner, whose death on January 12, 2004, ended a marriage union of 62 years. Both were life-long residents of Johnstown.
Also preceded in death by her 2 sisters, Barbara Joyce Robinson and Frances Espenshade-Hunter.
Survived by these children, son, Frederick R. "Fred" Wagner, married to the former Patricia "Patty" Tay, East Conemaugh; daughter and caregiver, Linda L. Wagner and son, Timothy "Tim" Wagner, married to the former Elizabeth "Betsy" Brown, all of Johnstown and granddaughter, Rebecca "Becky" Wagner married to Josh Thomas, Fort Collins, CO.
Mary graduated from Johnstown High School in 1934. After graduation, she was employed in the office of Harris/Boyer Bakery and secretary for O.P. Thomas Construction Engineer. She also worked in the sales office at Haws Refractories before she was married.
She was a member of the former Cooper Ave. United Methodist Church, which she joined in 1931, and was an active member teaching Sunday School for many years. She was also the church historian and enjoyed researching family genealogy.
She was inducted into the Voters Hall of Fame in Harrisburg on May 23, 1991. She and her husband liked to travel by car and had been in all 48 of the contiguous states in the USA.
Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm Wednesday at the Hindman Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 146 Chandler Ave., where funeral service will be held at 11am Thursday. Rev. Jack Rupert, officiating. Interment, Grandview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Day Inc. Hindman Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., "Exclusive Provider of Veterans and Family Memorial Care."
