- The following obituary was published in the East Arizona Courier on was posted on June 6, 2012:
Funeral services for Marie Chesley, age 85, of Thatcher were conducted Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at 10 a.m., at the Central LDS Chapel by Bishop Mike Nelson of the Thatcher Fifth Ward. Concluding services followed in the Hubbard Cemetery. Marie passed away Friday morning, May 25, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Thatcher, with her loving family at her side.
Ruby Marie Chesley was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Wellington, Carbon County, Utah, to Dennis Tidwell and Vera Edney. She was the third of seven children born to this union, which include Lyman, Dixie, Marie, Lila, Albert, Norman and Ann.
When Marie was 17 years old, she moved upstate to the Utah Ogden arsenal and lived in the barracks. While there, she landed a chauffeur job transporting military generals. She later decided to move to New York to get a job as the war was ending. It was here that she met Derald Chesley, or “Toby,” as he was known by all. He was returning to the states on the battleship he was serving on, and they met and married shortly after.
Marie loved to cook and sew, and she made more quilts than you could count. She was very good at it and loved showing them off to family and friends. Anyone whom she knew very well had plenty of quilts to keep warm for the winter. Marie taught her kids and grandkids to sew and quilt. She loved spending time with her family, friends and doing her church work.
Marie became ill in her last years, and her family made her comfortable until she became increasingly ill; and her daughter, Derala, and her granddaughter, Bonnie, took excellent care of her in her last months.
Marie is survived by her daughters, Sandra Pesina (Manny) and Derala Clark; her sons, Jay Chesley (Lisa) and Rob Chesley (Jeniffer); her brother, Norman; her sister, Ann; her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Marie was predeceased by her loving husband, Toby; her parents, Dennis Tidwell and Vera Edney; her two brothers, Lyman Tidwell and Albert Tidwell; her two sisters, Dixie Tidwell and Lila Weston. Â
