- According to Scott McNeill (http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=surnames.deal&m= 640) , George Diehl (or Deal) 1. George Deal was born in Frederick Co., Maryland in 1758. According to IGI records, his father was also George Deal but this may not be correct. Frederick Co., MD is right across the Potomac from Loudon Co., VA.
On 18 July 1776, George Deal enlisted in Captian John Reynold's Company (Frederick County-Upper District) of the Pennsylvania Rifles of the Flying Camp of the Maryland Continental Army. He then fought in the Battle of White Plains. George re-enlisted as a second sergeant under Captain Chaplin, Maryland troops. His Maryland military service is confirmed in the Maryland Archives and the DAR records. The PA Pensioners database also shows that George may have been in the New Jersey State Troops.
In his application for a Revolutionary War Pension, George Deal of Providence Township, Bedford Co., Pennsylvania states that he was in the Army of the Revolution and that he formerly resided in Washington Co., Maryland. The Justice of the Peace, in front of whom George Deal swore this oath was his son-in-law, Charles Ashcom.
George and Philip Deal both took the Fidelity Oath to Maryland in Washington Co., Maryland as part of the Sharpsburgh Hundred on March 2, 1778.
In 1783, George married Mary Ann(a) Meyers, who emigrated from Germany to St. Mary's, Maryland
George Deal was in Bedford Co., Pennsylvania by 1784. He owned 20 acres of land and a distillery.
