Notes |
- Sophia Rohrkaste was born in Meerbeck, Germany (probably Helpsen) on 26 March 1825. She married Heinrich Pook, date unknown. She was widowed before 1867 (Schaumburger Auswanderer 1820-1914) lists her as a widow in 1867.
Sophia "Sophie" emigrated to the United States from Bremen (through Southhampton) to New York City on the ship "Atlantic". She arrived on 24 October 1867. Sophie was travelling with her children, Friedrich (11), Heinrich (9) and Wilhelm (5). She was not travelling with a spouse. She is listed as Sophie Park on New York Passenger list, but the original record reads Pook.
Sophie went to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where a number of Roehrkastes had settled including her parents and siblings.
Sophie remarried William Kramer sometime after 1867 in Pittsburgh, PA. She is in the Roehrkaste Family "A Century an a Half of Pittsburgh and Her People". She is mentioned as Sophia Kramer. In the 1880 census record she is in the household of William Kramer with Fredrick Trook and William Trook which was probably/obviously a misspelling of the name Pook.
Sophia died on 6 July 1885 of old age and is buried in St. Paul's Cemetery, along with a number of other Roehrkastes. She is listed as a widow at the time of her death, so William Kramer preceded her.
Sophia is mentioned in the Schaumburger Auswanderer as the sole recipient of the farm of Ernst Roerhkaste(her brother).
