Notes |
- According to LaRae Clinger (lclinger@hotmail.com) at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:1696505&id =I94223110 in September 2002:
James was baptized 18 Apr 1842 by William Smith in Nauvoo, Illinois.
In May 1852 he and his family started for Utah with 2 yoke of oxen, 2 cows, and one of the wagons he had made. They were with Capt. Howell's Co., and arrived in Salt Lake City the latter part of September.
In 1864 the Josephites preached many false doctrines, and James left the Mormon Church and went to Malad, Idaho with his family, except the two older children (Martha and James Henry) who remained in Utah.
By 1870 James and Harriet were in Nebraska and James was baptized a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by William Woodhead. (Early Reorganization munuter, 1852-1871, Book A, P 486, 831 and Early Reorganization Minutes, 1872-1905, Book B)
They returned to Utah and were rebaptized 4 July 1880 by James Cobbley. Marriage data from Life Sketch of Harriet Chapin Clinger.
Death date from cemetery record and obituary. RLDS Records, Columbus, Neb. Branch, packet #364-1 RLDS Archives: Received by letter 27 Aug 1868; bapt 28 June 1869; removed by certificate 29 Mar 1874. Rebaptized 18 Jul 1880 back into the LDS Church;
James was a guard in the Walker War. Ref: Pioneers and Prominent Men of Utah. Esshom, Frank 1913; Page 812.
