    • The following marriage announcement appeared in the Washington Post on March 10, 1927:

      Dowell, Once State Senator, Is Married

      Miss Henrietta Ashcom Gourley, of Hollands Point, Md., and William H. Dowell, former State senator and treasurer of Calvert county, Md., were married yesterday at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. Thomas E. Latimer, Hyattsville, Md.

      The ceremony was performed by the Rev. H.J. Durrant, rector of St. Matthew's church, Hyattsville. Mr. and Mrs. Dowell will live at the bride's estate at Hollands Point.

      According to the 1940 census, Henrietta (Ashcom) Dowell was widowed and living with his mother and brother at Holland Point, in Calvert, Maryland in 1940. She had completed college.
