Harvey was born July 20, 1929, in Braddock, to Benjamin and Sarah (Charapp) Hindin. He grew up in Rankin, where his parents owned a small grocery store at 1 Miller Ave. Harvey and Anna Mae (Ann) Schnaubelt were married May 2, 1953, in Alexandria, Va.
