The following obituary was published in the St. Petersburg Times (St. Petersburg, Florida) on August 10, 1987:
SLOAN, MRS. HELEN, 85, of Tampa, died Sunday (Aug. 9, 1987). She was born in Pittsburgh and came to Tampa eight years ago from St. Petersburg. She was a member of Manhattan Avenue United Methodist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Funk, Pittsburgh, Joan Mainwood, Albany, Ga., and Dee Smith, Ormond Beach; a sister, Emma Farmin, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and six grandchildren. Curry and Son Funeral Home, Tampa.

SLOAN A funeral service for Mrs. Helen Sloan, 85, of John Knox Village, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday at the graveside in Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Petersburg. Those attending are requested to meet at the cemetery. Survivors include 3 daughters, Mary Funk, Pittsburg, Pa., Joan Mainwood, Albany, Ga., Dee Smith, Ormond Beach, FL, a sister, Emma Farmin, Scottsdale, Ariz., and six grandchildren, Deborah Montebon, and Kathy Kovack, both of Pittsburg, Pa., Barry Mainwood, Racine, Wisc., Beth Mainwood, Atlanta, Ga., and Cynthia and Kimberly Smith, both of Tampa.
