H. A. Hamnett,
Fireboat Pilot
Funeral services for Herbert A. Ilamnett, 60, former pilot of the fireboat Phoenix, will be held tomorrow at 1 p. m. at Gantner-Felder-Kenny, 1965 Market St.
Mr. Ilamnett, a pilot on San Francisco Fire Department fireboats for 18 years, died Sunday of lung cancer. He had been off duty since September, when his left lung was removed.
DIESEL FUMES
In January, he asked the City Retirement Board to declare his condition "service incurred." Mr. Hamnett claimed diesel engine fumes were responsible for his condition--the third such case the last 3-1/2 years.
The board deferred a decision on Mr. Hamnett's plea for a special pension and Fire Chief William Murray ordered a new inquiry into fume control aboard the Phoenix.
Prior to his employment with the Fire Department, Mr. Hamnett was a commander in the Maritime Service.
Survivors Include his wife, Agns [sic. Agnus?], of 56 Entrada Court.
He was a member of the San Francisco Fire Fighters 798, and Ingleside Lodge No, 630, F. & A. M.
Burial will be In Woodlawn Cemetery.
