    • The following obituary appeared in The Daily Messenger (Canandaigua, New York) on October 6, 1964:

      Mrs. William Butterfield

      Mrs. Katherine Butterfield, 92, former resident of Spangle St., Town of Hopewell, died Monday in Chicago following a long illness. She was the widow of William Butterfield.

      Mrs. Butterfield was born in Germany, April 7, 1872, and came to the United States at the age of 15. She had spent most of her life in the Town of Hopewell, moving to Chicago in 1948 to live with her son, Fred W. Butterfield. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Seneca Castle.

      Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Butterfield of Chicago; two nieces, Mrs. Laura Green and Mrs. Mildred Henry of Canandaigua.

      Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the John C. Johnson Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m., Rev. Harold Avery, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, officating. Burial will be in Gorham Cemetery.
