COLONEL HUGH F.Â
(U.S. ARMY RETIRED)
Colonel Hugh F. Young, (U.S. Army Retired), died January 15, 2009 in Valencia, PA, at the age of 91. Colonel Young saw armed combat in the European Theater during World War II and in the Korean War. He was awarded the Silver Star twice, and the Bronze Star with Valor. He participated in six significant combat campaigns in France, Germany, Poland and Czechoslovakia in WW II, and in four separate armed campaigns in Korea. During his more than 30 years of active duty service, he was awarded the Legion of Merit on three occasions. Colonel Young was born July 8, 1917 in Avalon, PA and entered active duty service as a private in 1941 in Turtle Creek, PA. He is survived by his wife Louise W. Young of North Versailles, PA. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia "Ginny" S. Young, three sisters and two brothers. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Virginia Leback of Seattle, WA; Karen Wentz of Fayetteville, PA; one son, Hugh F. Young, Jr. of Oak Hill, VA; one step-son, David Wunderly of Brunswick, OH; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great grandchild; and two step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Olive Davies, of Monroeville, Martha Stockton, of Bakersfield, CA and Mary Windler, of Broomfield, CO one brother, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Monday, January 19 at the FORGIE-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 1032 Broadway, East McKeesport, PA between the hours 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm with a brief Funeral Service following at 8 pm. Burial will be in Carlisle, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bugles Across America NFP, c/o Tom Day Founder, 1824 S. Cuyler Ave., Berwyn, Illinois 60402 or to any charity providing services to combat veterans, past and present.Â
