    • The following obituary was published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on December 18 1976:

      Ruth Ryan Amend, Ex-Teacher

      Mrs. Ruth Ryan Amend, a retired art and music teacher in the Swissvale Schools who is active in the Wilkinsburg Baptist Church, died yesterday (Dec. 17) in Shadyside Hospital.

      Mrs. Amend, 82, of 1519 Avon Place, Wilkinsburg was past president of the church's Women's Mission Society, a member of the Diaconates, a teacher and superintendent in the junior department of the church Sunday school, and director of the children's choir, volunteer adult choir and drama group. She was chairperson for the State Women's Committee and was active in the Pittsburgh Baptist Association.

      She is survived by her husband, William H. Amend.

      Friends may call at the T.D. Turner Funeral Home, 729 Wallace Ave., Wilkinsburg, from 2 to 4 p.m. today and noon to 2 p.m. tomorrow. Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Penn Hills.

      Memorial contributions may be made to the Wilkinsburg Baptist Church.
