The following obituary appeared in the October 30, 1972 edition of the Spokane Daily Chronicle:

Irving T. Atwater, 78, retired president of Nott-Atwater, wholeale mill and mine supplies, died yesterday at a convalescent home. He had been ill six weeks.

Born in Helena, Mont., he moved to Spokane for his high school education at Lewis and Clark. He attended Dartmouth College, graduating in 1917. He was a World War I Army veteran.

Mr. Atwater retired in 1969,

He was a charter member of America Legion Post No. 9 and a member of Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Northwest Mining Association, Spokane Country Club, Spokane Club and Northwest Senior Golf Association.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy, at home, S3728 Manito Blvd; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald R. Nancy Rector, Seattle; two sons, Robert T., Spokane and Richard M., San Diego, and three grandchildren.

The body is at Smith's where cremation is planned.

Memorial Wednesday

Memorial services will be at 2 Wednesday in The Cathedral of St. John, with the dean, the Very Rev. Richard Coombs, officiating.

The family suggests memorial gifts may be made to St. Nicholas Guild of the cathedral.
