Louise E. Clifford
ST. MICHAELS — Louise Etter Clifford died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, at The Pines, Eldercare in Easton. She was 86.
Born in Baltimore on Feb. 12, 1919, she was the daughter of the late John Luther and Ruth Ashcom Etter.
Louise first came to Talbot County in 1928, when her family purchased and operated Camp Tred Avon on Pea Neck Road in St. Michaels. She also taught at Tilghman Elementary School for a short while and was admissions administrator at Kirkland Hall College, where Calhoon M.E.B.A Engineering school is located today. She owned and operated “The Connoisseur” in the Town Hall Mall in St. Michaels for a number of years, where she sold gourmet goodies and useful kitchen items. Louise was a woman of great accomplishments and fierce determination.
She is survived by her children, Caroline C. Coe and her husband, John W. Coe, James M. Clifford, Jr., and Cecelia C. Robertson and her husband, James B. Robertson; her grandchildren, John R. Coe, Benjamin C. Coe and Erin C. Lowery, three great-grandchildren; 11 nieces and nephews; two sisters, Mary Ruth Collison and her husband, Bert A. Collison, Helen Womack and her husband, Winslow Womack; a very dear niece, Ann Womack, and Louise’s dear friend and “third daughter” Debby Gregg. Her husband, James M. Clifford, died in 1964.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, with the place and time to be published at a later date.
