- The following obituary was published in the San Antonio Express on Saturday Morning, 09 May 1931, and was transcribed and available on FindAGrave.com in 2013:
Carrizio Springs, Texas- Ed Vernor, 19, son of Mrs George B Vernor, was drowned in Espanoza Lake near noon Friday. Ed, with others, was fishing in the lake which is at high flood from recent rains.
He was standing on the dam and it was thought by others that he was about to be washed over and jumped into the water. After a few seconds he came up, wiped the water from his face and smiled, but went down again. He was in the water two hours.
Almost every man here searched for the body as Ed was very well liked, being employed in the city service since his graduation from high school here last year.
H H Stone found the body about 100 yards from the place the boy was drowned.
The body will be buried Saturday. Rev J L Davis of the Presbyterian Church, of which Vernor was a member, will conduct the service.
