According to his passport application filed in May 1924, James was an auto mechanic in Pittsburgh. According to the 1930 census, Andrew was a machinist.

For several years in the late 1940's and into the 1950's, Andrew and his wife owned and operated a boat rental concession at Pymatuning Lake in Espyville, Pennsylvania.
