- NOTE: Based on the obituary below, Mary was born to Herman Hambenne and Wanda L. Johnson, but was raised by Alexander Robinson Tarr. According to his Pennsylvania Death Certificate, Herman died of pneumonia in 1932.
The following obituary was published in The Valley News Dispatch on June 30, 2008:
Mary E. Welsh, 77, of Arnold, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, in Bel Air Nursing Center, Lower Burrell. She was born Aug. 7, 1930, in New Kensington, daughter of the late Herman Hambenne and Wanda L. Johnson Hambenne Tarr, and had been a life resident of the local area. A housewife, she had also worked as a waitress and for Paragon Plastics in New Kensington. She enjoyed bingo and time with her great-granddaughter and family. Mary is survived by her four daughters, Elaine C., Mary L. and Dawn B. Welsh, all at home, and Betty (Richard) Taradena, of Export; son, Mark J. (Tammy) Welsh, of New Kensington; grandchildren, Holly (Dennis) Beattie and Ted (Sue) Jablonowski; great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Beattie; two sisters, Helene (Walter) Alworth, of Braeburn, Lower Burrell, and Wanda (Glenn) Claypool, of Kittanning; also several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. "Pee Wee" Welsh, on March 17, 2008; her stepfather, who raised her, Alexander Robinson Tarr; and a brother, Lee Robinson "Bobby" Tarr. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the RUSIEWICZ FUNERAL HOME, 1400 Fifth Ave., Arnold, where funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Dave A. Hefferan. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Lower Burrell.
